Chapter 14
Faithfulness

There is no surprise that the majority of the references to faithfulness in the Bible refer to God’s faithfulness. Faithfulness comes from a place of trust and loyalty.  Our faithfulness to God is tested every time we are tempted to sin. We as Christians are called to be faithful to Him who is always faithful to us. In the parable of the talents we see that if we are faithful in the small things, God will reward us with many. Jesus tells of a Master who rewards those who are faithful:

“Also the one who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have [made a profit and] gained two more talents.’  His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little, I will put you in charge of many things; share in the joy of your master.’”
-Matthew 25:22-23AMP

The story of Ruth speaks of loyalty, faithfulness, and reward! A woman named Naomi was married and had two sons. Ruth was married to one of Naomi’s sons and Orpah was married to the other.  Sadly, Naomi’s husband and both of her sons passed away. Naomi, now a widow, heard that the Lord had visited His people giving them bread, so she decided to return to her homeland in Bethlehem. Naomi advised Ruth and Orpah to stay in Moab and remarry, but Ruth refused to leave Naomi’s side. Although Ruth had worshiped idols like most people in Moab, she had turned from that to worship the Living God of Israel. Ruth worked hard to make sure Naomi had enough to eat. Every day she followed the harvesters in the field and picked up the left-over grain. Boaz, the owner of the field, heard how good
Faithfulness

Ruth was to her mother-in-law. When he met her, Boaz helped her by ordering his harvesters to leave handfuls of grain behind on purpose. Boaz began to like Ruth and she became his wife.

This glorious story foretells the decedents of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Boaz and Ruth called their first son Obed. He became the grandfather to David, the great King of Israel but even more wonderfully, baby Obed was an ancestor to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came through David’s family line to be King of kings and the Savior of the world!

God saw Ruth’s faithfulness to Naomi and she received a great reward! As we perform the simple tasks of our daily lives, the Lord watches us also, to see our faithfulness each day. When we are faithful over a few things God rewards us by making us rulers over many! We can also take comfort knowing that even when we struggle to be faithful, the Lord continues to defend and protect us:

“But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you [setting you on a firm foundation] and will protect and guard you from the evil one.”
-2 Thessalonians 3:3 AMP

Thank the Lord each day for His faithfulness to you and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the strength to be faithful in reading your Bible and spending time with God. Acknowledge areas in which you need help and seek the Lord for guidance.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for always being faithful to me, even in times when I am unfaithful! Your love never ceases and Your mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning... How great is your faithfulness! Holy Spirit give me an obedient heart and the strength to be faithful to do
what you have called me to do.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
