LAMENT-a passionate expression of grief or sorrow.

REPENT- to surrender to God by expressing sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin and asking for forgiveness by changing your way of thinking.

DEAD SEA SCROLLS- Ancient Jewish religious manuscripts that were found in the Qumran Caves in the Judean Desert, near Ein Feshkha on the northern shore of the Dead Sea in the West Bank

DIALOGUE- Conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie.

PENTATEUCH- The first five books of the Bible. These books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The word Pentateuch comes from two Greek words that mean “five books” or “five scrolls”. According to tradition, the books were written by the Israelite leader, Moses.

 TREACHEROUS- Guilty of or involving betrayal or deception. Similar: Unfaithful, rebellious.

Prophecy- Inspired foretelling events. Revelations from God.

Fortune telling- The practice of predicting information about a person's life. The scope of fortune-telling is identical with the practice of divination.

Divination- An attempt to foretell the unknown  by occult means ( supernatural, mystical, or magical beliefs)

A fortune-teller is also known as a soothsayer (Someone who claims to be able to predict the future).

ADVOCATE- A person who pleads another's cause, or who speaks or writes in support of something. A lawyer is an advocate when he represents his client in a courtroom. A Case Manager will advocate for her client by helping them to access services, such as food, housing, and medical care.

JEALOUS- 1. Feeling or showing envy of someone or their achievements and advantages 2. Very watchful or careful in guarding or keeping

ARMAGEDDON- "Hill of Megiddo", in the New Testament; the place where the kings of the earth under demonic leadership will wage war on the forces of God at the end of history. Armageddon is the place where the last battle between good and evil will be fought.

MESSIAH- (1) The promised deliverer of the Jewish nation prophesied in the Hebrew Bible. (2) A leader or savior of a particular group or cause.

REVERE- To feel deep respect or admiration for (something)

CONTEMPT- The feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn.

Ex: "he showed his contempt for his job by doing it very badly"

TRANSGRESS- To transgress is to choose to intentionally disobey; transgression is willful trespassing.

AFFLICTION- something that causes pain or suffering.

INFIRMITY- physical or mental weakness.

SYNOPTIC- Synoptic, in Greek, means "seeing or viewing together," and by that definition, Matthew, Mark, and Luke cover much the same subject matter and treat it in similar ways.

CENTURION-  The commander of a century (hundred men) in the ancient Roman army.

PARALYZE- (of a person or part of the body) partly or wholly incapable of movement.

DROPSY-  (Edema) Extreme swelling.

SAMARITAN- A Samaritan in the Bible was a person from Samaria, a region north of Jerusalem.

 

In Jesus’ day, the Jewish people of Galilee and Judea shunned the Samaritans, viewing them as a mixed race who practiced an impure, half-pagan religion. 

MESSIAH-

The promised deliverer of the Jewish nation prophesied in the Hebrew Bible.

  • Jesus regarded by Christians as the Messiah of the Hebrew prophecies and the savior of humankind.
